This program is offered both full-time and part-time.
McKenzie College’s English Skills Study Program, similar to many generic General English programs (GE), prepares students for the kind of English they will need in everyday situations. Class programs are designed to effectively develop communication skills and fluency in speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar (core skills). A focus on sociolinguistic and sociocultural skills are also taught and explored in this program.
McKenzie College trainers use the Communicative Approach as the main method for course delivery. This will provide students plenty of opportunity for language production, utilizing all of the skills developed throughout the course.
Our full time program runs Monday to Friday, from 9am to 12:15 pm, with a 15-minute break in between, and again from 1:15 to 3:15pm (25 contact hours a week). Our part-time program is 15 hours a week and only runs in the morning. Both our full time and part time classes are structured similarly, with the same core skills being studied.
All students will be tested every Friday to check their progress. All students will also be able to attend a guided self-study hour between 3:15 and 4:15pm.
Most students will complete 1 level every 12 weeks of study. However, as all learners differ in ability, Level-up tests will be conducted every 2 weeks. After completing 6 weeks of study, students can attempt to move up to the next level by completing this test. Note: only students approved by the Academic Manager will be eligible to sit the test. If a student qualifies to move to the next level, he/she will need to purchase a new book. All student study books are $100 each for every level.
Intake into our English Skills Study Program is every Monday.
