University Prep is designed for ESL speakers to help prepare them for admission and success at the university or graduate level of studies at Canadian or American universities.  These ESL programs help them to improve skills needed to optimise their university/graduate school performance.
Students are required to have an IELTS score of 6.0 or an iBT TOEFL score of 71 to qualify for admission to the UP program. Students who are not yet at this level will have to undergo a McKenzie College Assessment test to qualify for entry into this program. It is encouraged to study in our English Skills program or EAP programs prior to our UP program.

In our University Preparation classes, you will learn how to:

* Plan, organize and write academic essays, summaries and research papers
* Edit your own work, checking for grammatical accuracy and spelling
* Write a report on a survey given
* Prepare and give a university presentation
* Study skills and time management
* Find out your own learning style to aid to develop study techniques suitable to you
* Develop critical thinking
* Develop note-taking skills

You will be tested weekly on grammar and vocabulary and will be required to submit 4 academic essays and give 2 presentations, all of which will be marked and allocated a grade.
Our UP classes run for 8 weeks in July and November, Monday to Friday, 25 contact hours a week.  These contact hours are for full instruction.  All self-study and preparation work is done outside of these hours.  Be prepared for 35 hours a week minimum for study, essay writing and preparing for presentations. You may be asked to work with a group for one of your presentations so some after-class study time is essential.
