Diploma Program

In the second ten months of the two-year program, the student chooses their concentration. Graphic design will help develop your design and visual communication skills. You will learn how to use various software programs including Adobe Creative Suite 4 to create brochures, corporate identities, product packaging and newsletters for print, web and multimedia presentations.


Career Opportunities

As a graphic designer there are many exciting careers to explore. Students may choose to become graphic designers for all types of private corporations, multimedia houses, web/interface contractors, consultants or small businesses.

Basic Theory

Creativity, theory, drawing and design are key words for this course. From layout design to text manipulation, you are introduced to the principals of design and typography. You will create, research, develop and express your thoughts through photography, presentations, ad campaigns, packaging and point of sale promotions.

Graphic Design Modules

Web Design

Interactive authoring using Flash, and web design using Dreamweaver will give you the basic knowledge of understanding to create web sites and flash contents.

Digital Photography

Students will learn how to creatively use their digital camera, learning controls for sharpness, exposure, light, color and composition. We also explore close-up and nature photography, practicing these concepts by taking pictures to use for various projects.

Software

Software suites include the most recent versions of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Mac Office, Adobe Acrobat, Flash and Dreamweaver and numerous other utilities and support packages. This software belongs to the student who will leave with the working version of Adobe CS4.

Hardware

McKenzie College provides a new MacBook Pro wireless laptop to each student. This allows maximum flexibility and mobility in the learning environment and at home. Upon completion of the program, students will keep the laptop to use in their new workplace. Student loans also offer funding for hardware.
