Diploma Program


In the second ten months of the two-year program, the student chooses their concentration. Game development provides you with the skills necessary to build flash games and publish them online. You will learn how to design games, produce graphics, integrate sound and program inter-activity.

Career Opportunities

Online gaming is booming and opportunities for work are rapidly increasing. Students will produce Flash games for the web, and will work as a freelance artist or as part of a team. Those who desire a deeper understanding of more complex programming can move on to further study.

Game Art and Design

Students will explore topics including game concept development, documentation storyboarding and flowcharting, gathering media assets, copyright issues and deployment options. Students will put to use their artistic skills gained from Visual Arts to produce graphics suitable for Flash games. Drawing lessons are given twice weekly by the Visual Arts instructors, maintaining and improving visual literacy and design skills.

Game Development Modules

Basic Theory

Students will learn color theory, graphical layout and design principals using physical and digital media. Media Presentation will allow students to plan, design and build presentations. Students are expected to present their work in front of classmates to provide the valuable experience of working and defending their work in front of an audience.

Digital Imaging / Digital Photography

Students will learn entry level through advanced image manipulation techniques using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Basic camera use, camera controls and principals of sharpness, exposure, light, color and composition are taught in digital photography.

Web Design / Interactive Media

Students will learn how to design and build websites using HTML/CSS and Adobe Dreamweaver. Interactive authoring using Flash, will help the student gain the understanding of creating interactive media presentations. An introduction to 3D basics is applied to your design of games, websites and flash content.

Programming Fundamentals

Students begin with basic programming concepts, including data structures, flow control and code optimization. Advancement to object- oriented programming and interactive authoring using Flash and Action Script 3 are used to produce a game suitable for publication on the web.
