Visual Arts Foundation Certificate, 8 Months September 2026 This 32-week certificate course is for aspiring artists who wish to advance their visual literacy skills. Our creative studio environment allows students to learn design fundamentals, critical thinking and time management skills through a series of hands-on projects. They will also have the opportunity to explore various media while developing new techniques and discovering their artistic voice. Upon successful completion, students will have built an extensive fine art portfolio that can be used to further their studies at McKenzie College or another college of their choice. As a result, so has the demand for the Visual Artists responsible for the concepts, characters, and animations for these games. The Video Game Art program will teach students the key skills to create professional game art and animation for the games of the future. Students will quickly advance their skills while building an extensive traditional and digital portfolio. This diploma program focuses on developing conceptualization and artistic skills, with a strong emphasis on creative problem solving. Policies, Terms & Conditions Payments All tuition payments must be paid before the Letter of Acceptance is issued. All fees are payable upon invoice. Students may be precluded from sitting exams, receiving results, or attending classes if tuition fees for a program or class term are not paid in full before the start date. General Policies Your program start and end dates are indicated on your McKenzie College Acceptance Letter. Students must make McKenzie College aware of any health issues prior to commencing courses. Students must obey all rules and regulations of McKenzie College. McKenzie College has the right to suspend students that are in breach of such regulations. The Language Centre at McKenzie College has an “English only” policy where it is recommended that all language learners speak English at all times while on the premises. Copies of the student's passport, Entry Visa, Study Permit, Health or Travel Insurance, and other required legal documents, i.e. custodianship forms, conditional letters of acceptance for pathway students, etc., must be provided to McKenzie College prior to or upon enrolment. Fees are non-transferable between students. Paid tuition fees from a McKenzie College program may be transferred to other McKenzie College programs with a minimum of 2 weeks' notice. No transfer fee will be incurred. The transferable amount will be prorated based on weekly fees for the actual number of weeks studied. The transferable amount will be counted toward tuition fees for the new program, with any outstanding fee difference payable upon invoice. No refund will be given in the event that new program tuition fees total less than the fees already paid. There is a transfer fee of $50.00 if the number of weeks studied is under two weeks. Students may defer classes for vacation purposes with a notice of at least 4 weeks. Missed material is the responsibility of the student. McKenzie College may be required to share attendance and progress records of students with the Canadian government, in accordance with any applicable federal and provincial privacy legislation. Group classes are required to have 3 students to be held at full hours. If the number of students drops below 3 at any time during the course, students will be switched to semi-private (two student) or private lessons (one student). You can request a copy of our TUITION AND OTHER STUDENT FEES document at admissions@mckenzie.edu Refund Policy Notification of cancellation or withdrawal from individual courses, program units, or a program in its entirety must be made in writing to McKenzie College prior to the start of the program. The Application Fee ($300.00) for international students is non-refundable. Any applicable bank and transfer fees for payments to and refunds from the college, are non-refundable. Bank Fees are the responsibility of the Student and will be billed to their account. Cancellation must be in writing at least 4 weeks before the student's original program start date to warrant a refund of fees paid except as in “2”. Cancellation in writing less than 4 weeks before the student's original program start date but prior to the start date warrants a refund except as in “2” and less $350 cancellation fee. Cancellation after the student's original program start date will not warrant a refund unless approved in writing by McKenzie College. If an exceptional refund is granted, the maximum refundable amount may be 50% of tuition only, less a $350 cancellation fee. Such refunds made on compassionate grounds may be up to 75% of tuition only, less a $350 cancellation fee. These amounts exclude any other fees for books, resources, etc. Used books and materials are not refunded. If you notify us of your intention to withdraw before your original start date and are eligible for a refund as per “4” and “5” above. Processing of refund requests commences once any required documents are received and verified (i.e. visa denial documents, banking information, etc.). In the case of visa refusal, a refund will be given up to the original program start date as long as written proof is presented, except as in “2”. No refunds will be given to students who are expelled for unacceptable behavior or non-compliance with visa conditions. There are no refunds for public holidays or days missed due to sickness or other reasons. There are no refunds if the school is forced to close due to weather conditions. See the McKenzie College website for weather-related closures at www.mckenzie.edu . In the case a student needs to return home urgently, the remainder of their course may be deferred and the fees may be held for up to one year “in trust”. Any refund will be paid to the person who originally paid the fees, where possible, in the same currency in which the fees were paid. If McKenzie College is unable to deliver a scheduled course that a student had enrolled in, alternative, mutually acceptable arrangements will be made. Fees may be subject to change without notice. Health / Travel Insurance All students should have health insurance while studying in Canada. International students must submit their health or travel insurance policy agreements to McKenzie College Admissions upon arrival at McKenzie College. It is highly recommended to apply for health or travel insurance prior to your arrival in Canada in order to ensure coverage from the first day of your stay.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS PORTFOLIO CRITERIA ACCEPTANCE PROCESS Application Timeline Applications are accepted year-round with no fixed deadlines . Complete applications must be submitted at least 30 days before your program start date. We recommend applying at least 3 months in advance to avoid waitlists and arrange financial aid. Application Fees Domestic Application Fee: $0 For Canadian & permanent residents International Application Fee: $300 CAD (non-refundable) For International residents Seat Confirmation Fee: $250 CAD (non-refundable) Required upon acceptance into a program to confirm and hold your seat. This fee will be deducted from your tuition. Application Requirements To be considered for admission to a McKenzie College of Design program, you must submit a complete application. Transcripts must indicate successful completion of high school, a post-secondary program diploma or degree, or have supporting documents that indicate completion. Recent transcripts may be submitted for conditional acceptance if High School studies are still in progress. Additional requirements for international applicants 6 Application Fee: $300 Only required for international applicants. This fee is in CAD and is non-refundable. Payment methods will be provided during the application form. 7 Valid Passport A photo or scan is accepted for the application process. It must cleary show your photograph, name, country of origin and expiry date. You will be required to show the original passport upon arriving in Canada. 8 Proof of English Proficiency English proficiency test results or English language training transcripts are required. If English proficiency is not met, you can first apply for English language training via the McKenzie Language School . 9 Tuition Deposit $2500 (CAD) tuition deposit is required before a letter of acceptance or provincial attestation letter is issued. Refundable if a visa/study permit is refused. 10 Valid Canadian Study Permit* A copy of a valid Canada study permit for proof of accepted entry to Canada. *Only required upon acceptance. APPLY NOW Portfolio of Work A portfolio is a collection of an artist or designer’s work that showcases past projects or pieces that protray their current skills, creativity, and range of artistic abilities. It is typically used to present a body of work for evaluation, such as when applying for art school, jobs in the creative industry, or for the purposes of exhibition. All submissions must be works completed by the applicant. Any works submitted that were influenced by another artist, such as master copies or pop-culture references, must be accompanied by proper citation. Applicants are required to indicate their role if the submission is a result of a group project. Portfolio Criteria An art and/or design portfolio with 10–15 original works created within the past three years. At least six pieces should demonstrate observational work, such as self-portraits, still life, landscapes, or architecture. Include a variety of media (pencil, charcoal, pastel, digital, etc.) and select pieces that reflect your interests and strengths. Color work is strongly recommended. For oversized or 3D projects (such as murals, sculptures, or installations), submit clear photographs. SUBMIT YOUR PORTFOLIO Acceptance Process Once your application is complete, it is reviewed by our admissions panel, which makes a collective decision based on your academic performance, portfolio, and interview results. Additional Assessments Some applicants may be asked to complete additional entry assessments, such as reading comprehension, writing skills, basic computer literacy, or artwork exercises. Notification of Acceptance Decision All applicants are notified of the acceptance decision by email within 2 weeks of the submission of the completed application. If you have complete your application and have not received an email within 2 weeks, please contact us . Upon Acceptance If accepted, the applicant MUST confirm their seat in the program as soon as possible by submitting the Confirmation Seat Fee of $300 CAD . Seats are reserved at a first-accepted, first-served basis. FAQs Am I required to complete the Visual Arts Foundation certificate program before entering other McKenzie College programs? If so, why? If your intent is to complete a 2nd-year diploma program, you are required to successfully complete the 1st year Visual Arts Foundation program before entering your 2nd year of concentration. The foundation year teaches our students fundamental art skills and techniques that are carried on through many creative career paths. With this foundation, each student is better equipped and skilled in their 2nd-year diploma program, in turn, are better artists and designers once graduated. Do the programs allow time for me to work part-time? Yes. We understand that you may need to work part-time while attending McKenzie. Therefore, our studio classes are geared more towards a daily work schedule - from Monday to Friday, 9am-3pm. From time-to-time, you will be required to work on class projects after school hours but most work is done during class hours, freeing up evenings and weekends for you. What equipment and supplies do I need for my program? Are these fees included in tuition? Depending on your program of study, each student is required to have specific equipment and supplies by first day of classes.
